Bulk Density of Granular Materials During Processing
نویسنده
چکیده
Bulk density is an important process parameter for machines that transport, feed or process granular materials. Certain process variables have been shown to increase bulk density, such as the channel geometry at machines with rotational helical elements, the shape, dimensions and dimension distribution of granules, pressure, temperature, and vibration of the granular layer. The effect of the random fluctuation of the bulk density shows off in the flow rate variation that may affect product quality being therefore necessary to reduce possible fluctuations of bulk density. Experimental data was analyzed to evidence the influence of vibrations over bulk density and flow rate. The experimental results showed a significant increase of flow rate as a consequence of the vibration of the granular assembly in the feeding zone of the transport or processing machine.

Useful Relationships between Dielectric Properties and Bulk Densities of Granular and Powdered Materials
When knowledge of the dielectric properties, or permittivity, of granular or powdered materials is important, as in dielectric heating applications or in the sensing of moisture content by radio-frequency or microwave instruments, some reliable relationship between the dielectric properties and the bulk density of the material is required. Linear relationships between functions of the permittiv...

When the permittivities, or dielectric properties, of granular or powdered solid materials are important, some reliable relationship between the permittivity and the bulk density of the air-particle mixture is required. Examples of such applications include radio-frequency or microwave dielectric heating of these materials and the use of correlations between permittivity and water content of hy...
متن کاملNumerical study of stress distribution in sheared granular material in two dimensions
We simulate the response of dense granular material to shear. Our simulations use a micromechanical model which includes realistic material models for each deformable grain, and a Coulomb friction model for interactions between grains. We measure the probability density function (PDF) governing the volume distribution of stress for monodisperse and polydisperse samples, circular and polygonal g...

Janssen created a classical theory based on calculus to estimate static vertical and horizontal pressures within beds of bulk corn. Even today, his equations are widely used to calculate static loadings imposed by granular materials stored in bins. Many standards such as American Concrete Institute (ACI) 313, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers EP 433, German DIN 1055, Can...

Pyroplastic deformation is a distortion of the ceramic shape during the sintering process. It occurs because the flow of the vitreous phase at high temperature and the applied stress due to the weight of the product during sintering process. The aim of this paper deals with describing a numerical-experimental method to evaluate the pyroplastic deformation, to predict the anisotropic shrinkage a...
